Cambridge Half Marathon (Arcus Global Business Team Challenge)

For years and years the homeless charities and clothing banks of Cambridge have been reaping the rewards of discarded jackets and jumpers at the start of the Cambridge Half Marathon. One Step Beyond (OSB) runs a tight ship when it comes to distributing the discarded clothing at the start line, with thousands of runners desperate to keep warm from the freezing March conditions before taking on 13.1 miles.

This year, you would have been lucky to find a discarded sock at the start line. Temperatures of 17 degrees swept through the city bursting at the seams with runners and supporters. Unfortunately, leaving a disappointing haul for the clothing donations this year.

Thankfully the disappointment was not far reaching, as the Arcus Team lined up to take on their second team half marathon on Sunday 9th March. The team consisting of Amanda, Robin, Alison, Fiona, and Peter, lapped up their well needed breakfast butties in the VIP tent in the build up to the much anticipated start line. Breakfast butties aside, all runners know and understand, a VIP tent is worth its weight in gold just to prevent waiting a fortnight for a pre-race pee.

The team did an incredible job navigating the cobbled streets of the city taking in the sights of King’s College, central Cambridge and Grantchester. Particular thanks go to the kind gentleman in Grantchester, cooling down runners with his personal garden hose!

13.1 miles is an incredible feat of endurance for even the most experienced of runners. So to get 5 Arcus runners over the line of one of the UK’s largest half marathons is nothing short of phenomenal. In addition to the sunshine, a large gust of wind blew the majority of Arcus runners straight into the Fort St George post race for a well earned rehydration session.
