Small things make a difference.

Earlier this year at our company meeting we spent the afternoon building and decorating bird boxes as a team-building event.   It was a great success, with staff working with each other and contributing to an environmental project.   Once completed the remaining paints and crafting materials were packed away and we all went off to get changed for an evening.   I was left with a van full of paints and crafting materials wondering what to do with them.

A few years ago I was chatting to a local shelter and they informed me that one of the biggest issues they have is when those who need help arrive they have nothing, they have often arrived with the clothes on their back they have given up or had everything taken from them.  After a quick chat with one of their volunteers the remaining paints, glues,  sparkles, stamps, stickers and other crafty stuff were handed over to a small domestic abuse charity.   It might sound like a small gesture but the impact this may have on a young person who has nothing will be massive. 

We weren’t expecting to hear any more about it until yesterday we received a letter from the Chief Executive of the Domestic Abuse Society thanking us for our donation.  A letter which ,like DIY SOS, brought a tear to my eye. 

The willingness to make the donation to the charity reinforces Arcus Global’s commitment to social values, an aspect that is becoming more important within public sector procurement, more importantly, it will give someone somewhere some happiness.
